Magnum Jazz Combo: Fall 1995-Spring 1997

This UCSB Jazz Department project proved to be a pivotal moment in LAG history, bringing together the top players in the department to study the art of jazz in a collective and positive way. Director Jon Nathan (later to be seen as one the founders of ALO), was the director at hand, and assisted in nurturing Magnum and eventually bringing them to the UC Berkeley Jazz Festival by the Spring of 1997, where the sextet accepted high awards for their performance. These original members have since moved on to great success in the field of music... Willis Bill Barrett: performing saxophonist, music director in L.A.; Alex T. Pauley: multi-bass-clef-instrumentalist, composer for Disney's recent side-project "It's A Wonderful Life"; Josh Yafa: Bay Area-based drummer sitting in with various funk projects in San Francisco; and as for LAG... don't go home just yet.
